What to Use to Heal Your Skin from Burns

My obsession with skincare truly began when I got severely burned from cooking oil. You can’t tell too much from the pictures, but my arm looked like this at first.

Then, after months of having band-aids up and down at almost every inch of my arm (I didn’t really take that many pictures during the time slash I don’t know why anyone would), I began to scab and scar. But despite the pain going away, I became bogged down by something else: the ugly scars.

I turned to silcone patches, topical creams, and prescription ointments to get rid of the scarring— but saw little to no effect.

As I was researching what would make my skin turnover and regenerate as quickly as possible, I discovered that tilapia skin is often used to heal burns and wounds.

And to make long story short, a month of ingesting collagen, my scars began to look much, much better. However, the differences others noticed the most were not my arms, but in my face and hair.

So I became even more regimented about taking collagen. But unfortunately, collagen didn’t taste too great. So I went and ordered everything that I thought could help mask the taste of collagen, in addition to trying to find the least foul-tasting. After months of formulating, testing, researching, and vetting each ingredient, Crushed Tonic was born!

But, that’s not to say that nothing topical worked. I definitely did take care of my scars very well. A year and a few months later of daily collagen ingestion and some great outer skin rituals, I’m excited to share that the coloration of my skin has homogenized completely (picture to come).


Once the burns are no longer pink / red slash early they are in their stages of scabbing:

Bio-oil, as often as possible.


Sesame oil, mixed with turmeric powder, at night.

So this is when your burn is in the process of scabbing. Mix a tiny bit of sesame oil with a bit of turmeric (applying turmeric topically lessens inflammation of the skin, and helps regenerate your skin cells) and leave it on for 15 minutes, about 3 different times throughout the night. After doing this for a few days, my scabs began to lighten up (less pigmentation). But be careful– turmeric CAN stain your skin a bit!


Once the scabs have fallen off completely, and there’s just pigmentation of where the burns used to be:


Glycolic acid peels.

Only use glycolic peels when your skin has fully scarred, and there’s hyper pigmentation where your burn once used to be. They are amazing at getting rid of scarred and discoloured skin, and having new skin regenerate quickly and homogenise in colour. I would use it about 3 times a week to get rid of the discolouration, and after 3 weeks, my skin is once again of the same colour!

And of course, never forget sunscreen (try to wear long sleeve fro the most part).
